The Development And Opportunities of the New Energy Storage Industry Chain under the Dual-Carbon Strategy | 2022 New Energy And Battery Industry Alumni Annual Meeting Concluded Successfully In Shenzhen.
On the morning of December 18th, 2022, the 5th Annual Forum and Alumni Meeting of the New Energy and Battery Industry at Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) was successfully concluded in Shenzhen. Considering the impact of the pandemic, the conference adopted a "hybrid" format of both online and offline participation. Despite the short preparation and promotion time, nearly 5,000 people attended the conference online and offline.
The annual meeting was organized by the New Energy and Battery Industry Branch of the Shenzhen Alumni Association of HUST (referred to as the "Industry Alumni Association") and co-organized by the Shenzhen HUST Research Institute. The conference was sponsored by Xiamen Haichen Energy Storage Technology Co., Ltd. and jointly sponsored by Shenzhen Gibal Aluminum Co., Ltd. The theme of this year's forum, "The Development and Opportunities of the New Energy Storage Industry Chain under the Dual Carbon Strategy," was personally decided by President Liang Rui. From downstream applications to upstream materials, from intelligent manufacturing of batteries to efficient recycling, a group of outstanding alumni who adhere to the spirit of "enlightened by virtue, seeking truth and innovation" have emerged in various links of the new energy industry chain. They gathered in Shenzhen for this annual event to deeply explore various new technologies and opportunities, and jointly make their mark on the era of HUST in the tide of reform, innovation, and industry development.
At the beginning of the conference, Yu Zida, the president of the Shenzhen Alumni Association of HUST, the CEO of Shenzhen Shenzhou Tong Investment Group, and an alumnus of the Class of '81, congratulated the Industry Alumni Association and urged them to continue to play the role of organizing alumni resources in the entire new energy industry chain, and to enable and achieve mutual empowerment and growth among alumni enterprises.

Following that, the president of the Industry Alumni Association, Liang Rui, who is also the Vice President of XWD Corporation and an alumnus of HUST from the Class of 1985, pointed out that the alumni association should always adhere to its original purpose, and once again emphasized the five basic goals of "strengthening alumni networking, sharing industry information, connecting advantageous resources, promoting career development, and spreading the reputation of the alma mater". He also called for the creation of a new energy ecological platform to embrace the broad career prospects under the dual carbon targets, and to work together with alumni in the industry to achieve mutual growth. He said, "We should always regard serving alumni, enhancing the reputation of the alma mater, and contributing to the value-added development of the industry as the fundamental starting point and foothold of the Industry Alumni Association."

一、The Views of Successful Entrepreneurs
Subsequently, Sheng Jianming, executive vice president of the industry alumni association who has successively started businesses in Shenghong Shares, Zhijia Neng Automation, and Yongtai Sunergy, and an alumnus of the class of '91, shared his initial entrepreneurial intentions and prospects for the energy storage market. Sheng Jianming stated that, in the context of carbon peak and carbon neutrality, energy storage technology is a key area that must be focused on. Currently, the demand for the new energy industry still remains strong, and Yongtai Sunergy collaborates closely with upstream and downstream partners. The two are not in a competitive relationship, and working together is far better than developing individually. The goal is to jointly expand and strengthen the racecourse of the new energy industry.

Subsequently, several senior alumni gave three wonderful presentations on the theme of "The Development and Opportunities of the New Energy Storage Industry Chain under the Dual Carbon Strategy." First, Jiang Weiliang, the energy storage BU general manager of Shenzhen Yongtai Sunergy Technology Co., Ltd. and an alumnus of the class of '95, presented on "A Comprehensive Solution for New Energy with Zero Carbon, Intelligence, and Safety," sharing the opportunities and challenges of building a new power system, and explaining the operational concept of transitioning from "source following load" to "source-grid-load-storage." Second, Zhang Nan, the product director of Xiamen Haichen Energy Storage Technology Co., Ltd. and an alumnus of the class of '15, analyzed the breakthroughs in energy storage battery from the perspectives of safety, cost, and supply, with a focus on the dual carbon goal. He explained that various battery technologies, especially lithium-ion batteries, have the broadest application scenarios and are considered to be the mainstream of future energy storage technology, accounting for more than 90% of all energy storage. Finally, Dr. Zhang Wang, the director of the research institute of Shenzhen Shangshui Intelligent Co., Ltd. and an alumnus of the class of '08, presented on "The Development Trends of Lithium Battery Materials and Front-end Equipment in the TWh Era," introducing the new energy storage policy, the production and manufacturing process of lithium-ion batteries, the development trends of lithium-ion battery material equipment, and the development trends of front-end equipment for lithium-ion batteries.

With the widespread application of lithium-ion batteries, China's lithium mineral resources are extremely scarce. Therefore, the recycling and reuse of lithium battery materials have become a key link in the industry chain's closed-loop development. Raymeri New Energy, which is committed to solving the critical material recycling problem of the entire lifecycle of lithium batteries, had its co-founder, Wang Yong, deliver a related thematic report, sharing their exploration of the recycling of critical materials in retired lithium-ion batteries and the green path for the entire lifecycle.

五、Roundtable discussion
The theme of this roundtable discussion is "The Current Situation and Prospects of the Energy Storage Industry in the Context of Carbon Neutrality". The roundtable was chaired by Fang Chao, Vice President and Secretary-General of the Industry Alumni Association. The panelists included Liang Rui (Xinwanda, alumni of class of '85) and Guo Bin (BYD, alumni of class of '00), representing the battery industry, as well as Xu Zhihui (Yongtai Sun Energy, alumni of class of '88) and Xu Ming (Powealthy Times, alumni of class of '02), representing the energy storage system industry.
This roundtable discussion analyzed specific issues affecting the development of the energy storage industry, including top-level policy planning, current trends in the entire new energy industry chain, risks and opportunities, and discussed whether the industry is at the right time to achieve steady progress, as well as successful cases in different sub-segments and application scenarios.
